Micro-tunneling method is a method of trench less construction, which allows minimizing influence at the surface infrastructure in the course of construction in case of close city development, and doesn’t require excavation of trenches along the tunnel.

In case of micro-tunneling, pipe laying is performed using tunneling system of AVN type. Heavy-duty jacking unit transmits pushing force to the board via the tunnel of reinforced-concrete pipes, which is being piled up incrementally, when forwarding, Common excavation is performed by the cutting head of the tunneling system, equipped with a specialized rock cutting tool.Ground coat from the face zone is produced in the mode of hydraulic haulage. In this mode water is supplied to the cut face via the supply line, and the ground coat, mixed with water,  is transferred via the transportation lines by the transportation pumps to the surface, where separation is performed. After separation, water is supplied again to the cut face via the line by the supply pump.

One of advantages of micro-tunneling is high accuracy of cutting, deviation from the designed axes is not more than 30 mm. This is provided by the specialized computer control set, being a part of board laser guidance system. Micro-tunneling technology helps to lay the pipelines in different categories of the ground - from clay loam and water - saturated sand to massive rock. High-speed sinking operations (up to 15 meters per day) are another very important advantage of micro-tunneling method.
